Opening new doors, and working hard to change what it means to be blind in Pinellas county!
The National Federation of the Blind (NFB) opens new doors to information, fellowship, and new activities for all blind and vision impaired persons. NFB membership provides a common meeting ground and, even more important, a sense of participation and restoration of confidence. The ultimate purpose of the NFB is the complete integration of the blind into society on a basis of equality. The objective involves the removal of legal, economic, and social barriers; the education of the public to the new concepts concerning blindness; and the achievement of all blind people of the right to exercise to the fullest their individual talents and capacities. The real problem of blindness is not the loss of eyesight. The real problem is the misunderstanding and lack of information that exists. If a blind person has proper training and opportunity, blindness is only a physical nuisance.
THE NATIONAL FEDERATION OF THE BLIND IS NOT AN ORGANIZATION SPEAKING FOR THE BLIND--IT IS THE BLIND SPEAKING FOR THEMSELVES!
I pledge to participate actively in the efforts of the National Federation of the Blind to achieve equality, opportunity, and security for the blind; to support the policies and programs of the Federation; and to abide by its constitution.
